Which level should I use?

Balanced is a good default. Light prioritizes quality, while Maximum trades more image detail for a smaller PDF.

What gets compressed?

Convertix rebuilds the PDF with Ghostscript and can reduce embedded image resolution and redundant PDF data.

Will every PDF get smaller?

No. Some PDFs have little left to compress. Convertix shows both file sizes so you can decide whether to keep the result.
